Every year there are about 10,000 cases of dowry reported from across the country. The act states that the husband or his family members can be punished with up to three years imprisonment and it is non-bailable. Last week the Supreme Court also suggested that arrests in dowry cases can't be made immediately. Has this order in a way diluted the dowry law or an amendment is necessary to prevent harassment of men accused under false complaints?
