How Neo Darwinian Paleontologists Explain the Gaps in the Fossil Record

Описание: For decades, defenders of neo-Darwinian evolution argued that the ancestors of Cambrian animals were missing from the fossil record simply because they were too small or too soft to be preserved. This explanation, known as the artifact hypothesis, has been repeated in classrooms and textbooks as the reason we don’t see transitional forms before the Cambrian explosion.

But discoveries in southern China have overturned that explanation. Paleobiologists have found exquisitely preserved microscopic embryos delicate, soft-bodied organisms fossilized tens of millions of years before the Cambrian. If fragile embryos can be preserved, why not the supposed ancestors of trilobites and other Cambrian animals? Their absence, experts now admit, is not due to preservation failure but because they were never there in the first place.
