We Stayed at an Award-Winning Campsite in Wales… Was It Actually Worth It?

Описание: In this episode, we head to North Wales to stay at an award-winning campsite and see if it really lives up to the hype.

We stayed at Waenfechan Glamping & Camping, a peaceful countryside site just outside Colwyn Bay with incredible views across the Conwy Valley. It’s one of those places that feels properly tucked away, but still close enough to explore everything North Wales has to offer.

The site offers traditional tent pitches, campervan hook-ups and luxury glamping pods, some even with private hot tubs. Prices vary depending on the season. Camping pitches are generally budget-friendly, while the glamping pods sit higher depending on facilities and time of year. The setting is quiet, scenic and ideal if you’re looking for a relaxed base to explore Conwy

While staying there, we explored some of our favourite spots nearby.

We visited Tan y Ddraig pottery studio in Conwy town centre — a lovely creative space where you can paint ceramics or try clay sessions. Plate and pottery painting starts from around £15 per item, with larger pieces costing more. Sessions usually last around two hours and include glazing and firing, so you can collect your finished pieces later. It’s such a great activity if you’re travelling with kids or just fancy something a bit different.

We also explored Conwy Castle, one of the most impressive medieval fortresses in the UK and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Adult tickets are around £12–£13, with reduced prices for children and seniors. Opening hours generally run from 9:30/10:00am until 4:00–6:00pm depending on the season. The views from the towers are unreal, and walking the historic walls gives you a proper sense of just how incredible this place is.

For food, we stopped at Trancio, a small pizza café on Castle Street. It’s affordable and perfect for a quick bite, with pizza slices, sandwiches and coffee typically under £10.

We also ate at Dylan’s Conwy, a popular restaurant on the High Street known for fresh seafood and Welsh dishes. Main meals usually range from £20–£40 per person. It’s relaxed but still feels like a bit of a treat, and the food definitely lives up to its reputation.

North Wales genuinely surprised us. The scenery, the history, the food, the campsite — it all made for such a good few days away. But the real question is… was the award actually deserved?
