A lot was covered in this week’s episode, and once again we were joined by our continued special guest, Coach Render, whose insight is always appreciated.
Centerville continues to dominate a tough GWOC, with eight straight conference titles and counting. They’re trending as one of the most dangerous teams in the state—no one is lining up to see them come playoff time.
Springfield finally picked up a much-needed win, led by EJ Rice, who has been on an absolute tear over the last three-plus games. This kid is must-see on game nights.
We broke down Alter vs. Badin, two physical, well-coached teams who split the season series. Badin looks like a serious Division III threat—tall, aggressive, and disciplined. Alter brings plenty of firepower, led by freshman phenom William Peagler Jr., who continues to show just how special he is. Shoutout to Payton Bakos as well.
On the girls’ side, Wayne is loaded, led by studs Nariya Goddard and Desirae Thomas—two special talents who set the tone.
Fairmont girls picked up an impressive win over a talented Princeton team led by sophomore standout Erin Thomas, who is already among the best players in the state. Fairmont was led by senior guard Kaylah Thornton, an Akron commit who was aggressive and electric. Keep an eye on sophomore Janiyah Hargrove, who already holds offers from some of the biggest programs in the country. Her ceiling is extremely high. Fairmont looks poised for a deep playoff run.
Alter vs. Fairmont (boys) delivered another great game. When Alter gets rolling, they’re tough to stop—again led by Peagler Jr. and Bakos. Fairmont was powered by our GWOC Player of the Year pick, Jayden McGraw, who finished with 31 points and 9 rebounds. Absolute stud.
We also discussed tournament seeding and how top teams may end up hunting each other early.
Westerville North is heating up and looking to repeat, with a potential heavyweight D2 clash at Lima Sr. looming. Must-see TV.
St. Edward has reclaimed the Cleveland crown—this time on the hardwood. After knocking off Lutheran East, they’ve beaten every major Cleveland contender this season and look primed for a deep postseason run.
Finally, Princeton vs. Lakota West was, in our opinion, Game of the Year. Elite talent on both sides, led by Josh Tyson (Lakota West) and Kam Mercer (Princeton). Played at Cintas Center in front of over 7,500 fans—proof that Cincinnati hoops is different. Two teams that can compete with anyone, anywhere.
