A tax lien can have a devastating effect on your credits score and can make obtaining a loan for a new automobile, or for a new home, impossible. But it is possible to remove a lien from your credit report. A lien is automatically created if the tax liability is not paid after the IRS sends a notice of the amount due and a demand that it be paid. The IRS may then file a notice of federal tax lien with the County Recorder's office. The IRS is required to release a federal tax lien once the taxes have been paid or the terms of an agreement with the IRS to satisfy the liabilities have been fulfilled.
If the IRS does not do so within 30 days, the taxpayer may request a certificate of release from the IRS. This release can be submitted to the credit agencies to clear up one's credit report. Our firm can help you deal with taxes that are affecting your credit. Call us today for more information.
