Threlkeld Quarry Railway Cab Run - Industrial Scenic Lake District Narrow Gauge Train Ride [4k UHD]

Описание: Come and enjoy a train ride with a difference, ending up at the quarry face! Step back in time and enjoy a railway journey like no other, Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum offers a unique experience to take a trip past mines and right up to the quarry face just like hundreds of years ago.

The journey is a 25 minute round trip (although this is just a one way ticket in this video) and really does offer scenery you wouldn't expect to see on any normal railway journey. The 1/2 mile journey boast an impressive 1/20 section as you literally climb your way up to the rock face.

The loco treating us to this journey is a Hunslet 50hp 0-4-0 DM 1945. This is one of only two known 2 foot gauge survivors of this type of locomotive. It is powered by a 50 horse power Gardner 4L2 engine. It was owned by the National Coal Board and came from the South Yorkshire area. It was retrieved from underground prior to the colliery closing - having stood awhile it had acquired a foot of coal dust on the bonnet! This loco has been altered at Threlkeld Quarry and Mining Museum to make it more suitable for passenger trains. This included a larger cab with better visibility.

The Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum is situated three miles east of Keswick, in the heart of the breath taking Lake District in Cumbria.

The quarry and museum have been lovingly run by our knowledgeable and dedicated staff for over 25 years, and the site and collections continue to expand.

I found prices on the day to be well worth it, the collection of vehicles on show alone is worth the entry fee to the museum and the train of course is the star of the show.
