And Helsinki has been named the happiest city in the world in 2020, as well as the top city in the world for a happy retirement in 2021. I traveled to Helsinki to find out why.

Finland isn’t known for its happy people. It’s known for sauna and vodka, and for being a cold country, only matched by the coldness of its people. Finnish people don’t express much feeling, and the suicide rate in Finland is second highest in the Nordics. Despite that, it's ranked as the happiest country in the world - so what's their secret?

In this video I explore Helsinki and I show you some of the amazing architecture you can see in the city. The Helsinki Cathedral, the Uspenski Cathedral, the Finalandia Hall, and the lovely Esplanade Park, Esplanadi.

I also show you various things to see and do in the city, like Korkeasaari Zoo, the Linnanmäki amusement park, and Suomenlinna, or Sveaborg, a maritime fortress from the 1700s. I also go into details about Finnish food, such as karjalan piirakka - a delicacy...even though it doesn't look like one.

Aside from this I also discuss the history and origins of Helsinki, and the troublesome past it has had. In the end, maybe I'll even get to an answer to the question: why is Helsinki the happiest city in the world?
