Описание: Finding a great item for my wardrobe is always exciting. It's even better when I can save lots of money in the process.

I love retail, but thrift and consignment help keep the budget in tact.

Here I'm sharing some tips for shopping second hand. Locations to check out are at the end.

*Google Thrift or Consignment near me to find the spots.

Don't be overwhelmed. There is a lot to see.

Decide what you want. What items are you looking for? If you're visiting multiple locations on the same day, it helps to stay on track by looking for that specific thing. If there is no plan, take your time and enjoy.

Keep an open mind. There are lots of great pieces to be found that are in great condition and lots of opportunity for new pieces. you still need to check for missing buttons and any other possible defects. If you really like it, is it worth the cost to make a needed repair or Alterations. Alterations can be expensive, so how long will you have this item?

Dress comfortably. Wear close fitting clothes to make try on easier and slip on shoes to save time (have a footie or knee high if uncomfortable trying in shoes). Wear a crossbody bag for hands-free shopping. Just like shopping retail.

If you think you like something, carry with you. That will give you time to consider what it may go with, keep anyone else from getting it, and decide if you really want it. Even at a great price it's a waste of money if you never wear it. When you're done shopping, assess what you have. Do you really want it or are you buying because it's a great price. Remember, if you don't wear it or don't plan to give it to someone, it's a waste of money.

Look for the quality brands. Those will be better constructed than some of the fast fashion brands.

US and European sizes will vary. You may need to sign up for European sizes.

Don't overlook the dressing "put back" rack. A customer may have just left something you want.

If you wear small or extra small, check the kids section too.

*Always check jewelry, belts, scarves and handbags. They can all be cleaned and are most of the time in good condition.

If you see something you really love, but can't decide how to wear it, if the price is right BUY IT. If you love it that much, you'll find a way to create a great look.

Watch what others are picking up. They may put it down and you can get it. Don't be obvious though. They may hold on to because they saw you watching them.

*Goodwill - There are over 4200 locations in the US. New York and Texas have the most stores.
-Closed on Sundays
-They have a "Color of the Week" that changes weekly and those items are 50% Off.
Ask about the discount card. If you spend $15 or more on a visit, your card will be stamped. When card has 4 stamps you will receive 20% off of a purchase of $20 or more.
-New items are put out daily

*Consignment
-Typically closed in Sunday and some may also be closed on Monday. CALL AHEAD.
-Same rules as above applies as with thrifting.
-Generally, prices are not like thrift prices. However, an item may be really inexpensive based on how long it stayed around. There may be a unique item that no one else saw value in, but may be just right for you.
There may be a clearance rack for a great deal
Ask about upcoming events - There are sometimes after hours or pre-season sales.
Some offer "Grab Bags" or "Mystery Bags" with multiple pieces for a low price.
-Best opportunity for new or gently used
-Markdowns occur about every 2 weeks, but the item you are looking at maybe gone tomorrow. If you love it, buy it now.
-Visit on a schedule. oftentimes, the same people are consigning and therefore you find the styles that work for you will be available throughout the year.
-There are sometimes multiples of an item or groups of new items.
-Items are typically seasonal
-Go early for best selection
-Check the policy for additional sale dates.

Whether you shop Thrift or Consignment, have a good time. On whatever interval you visit, it will probably be something that will be of great value for your wardrobe.

-Don't overbuy because it's a deal.
-Is there something you can get rid of to make room for the new? I am a huge proponent of having a lot of options. At these prices, it can be easy to acquire a lot in a short period of time, so I donate a couple of times a year to women's organizations. That helps them and helps me keep my closet in check.

Salons - a vendor may have items there to market to new customers
Garage sales (ask for jewelry) Ask if there is anything inside. It may not all be out
