Taylor and Stefan were lucky enough to find a Lingonberry plant during their travels in Washington. This extremely cold hardy evergreen bush is native to the boreal forest and Arctic tundra throughout the Northern Hemisphere, from Europe and Asia to North America.
When I think of Lingonberry I think of IKEA, where it is a topping to their amazing meatballs (try the vegetarian-you might be surprised). But this highly nutritious berry is a main dish in countries such as Sweden. And top of this Lingonberry has benzoic acid, a natural preservative so the berries can last a long time. Unfortunately for North America it can only grow in areas such as Washington, Oregon, and is actually on the endangered list in Michigan. It loves the cold, moist, and acidic soils. It can easily live at temperatures such as 40 degrees, that is one tough plant. So for me, I live in the Midwest with moody temperatures with temperatures that go above 100 degrees sometimes. So to combat this problem, I am going to plant my bushes in pots, so I can keep them a little cooler.
Would love to hear if anyone else has grown these wonderful bushes.
