Strategic Partner Or Silent Spectator? Russia Watches As US–Israel Bomb Iran, Kill Khamenei | VERTEX

Описание: As US and Israeli bombs fell on Tehran, Iran reached for its closest strategic partner — and found words, not weapons. Despite a sweeping partnership treaty signed just months ago, Russia offered condemnation but no troops, with Putin calling Khamenei's killing a "cynical murder" while making no move to intervene militarily. It's a pattern Moscow has repeated before with Syria's Assad and Venezuela's Maduro — political support that evaporates at the threshold of actual conflict. Analysts say the reason is simple: Russia is stretched thin in Ukraine, the partnership was never a military alliance, and crucially, Moscow actually benefits from Iran staying isolated — because a sanctions-free Iran could replace Russia as Europe's primary energy supplier almost overnight. For Tehran, the lesson is becoming painfully clear: when the bombs fall, Russia's partnership comes with fine print.
