১৯৮২ থেকে ১৯৯৬ সাল পর্যন্ত বাংলাদেশ টেলিভিশনে মাটি ও মানুষ অনুষ্ঠানটি উপস্থাপনার মাধ্যমে ব্যাপক জনপ্রিয়তা পান শাইখ সিরাজ। উন্নয়ন সাংবাদিক হিসেবে এমন জনপ্রিয়তার নজির বিরল। ১৯৯৯ সালের ১ অক্টোবর যাত্রা শুরু করে চ্যানেল আই। আর, ২০০৪ সালের আন্তর্জাতিক মাতৃভাষা দিবসের দিনটিতে, অর্থাৎ ২১শে ফেব্রুয়ারি শুরু হয় শাইখ সিরাজের কৃষি নিয়ে ভিন্নমাত্রার এক পথচলা- হৃদয়ে মাটি ও মানুষ। যা এখন সারা বিশ্বে দারুণ প্রশংসিত, নন্দিত এবং সর্বজনস্বীকৃত দর্শকপ্রিয় একটি অনুষ্ঠান। স্বাধীনতা পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্ত এই সাংবাদিকের অর্জনের সবচেয়ে বড় জায়গা ঘিরে রয়েছে কৃষক। বাজারে তারা কতোটা বঞ্চিত, কীভাবে এবং কেন তাদের অবজ্ঞা করা হয় তা-ই তিনি ফুটিয়ে তুলতে চেয়েছিলেন হৃদয়ে মাটি ও মানুষের প্রথম পর্বের একটি প্রতিবেদনে। চলুন দেখে আসি হৃদয়ে মাটি ও মানুষ’র প্রথম পর্বের এক্সক্লুসিভ ভিডিও।

Hridoye Mati O Manush, Soil & People in Heart is the name of an agricultural expedition, led by Bangladesh's pioneer development journalist, Shykh Seraj. He received country's two highest civilian honours, Swadhinata Puroshkar and Ekushey Padak, respectively. He's the BIDS fellow. Also an Ashoka and Bangla Academy Fellow. He furthermore received highest award for agricultural journalism from United Nations, FAO A.H. Boerma Award, Gusi Peace Prize (Philippines) and many other prestigious accolades in home and abroad. At Channel i, he's the Founder Director and Head of News. Since 2004, Channel i is telecasting this revolutionary agricultural documentary. Hridoye Mati O Manush is not just a programme, it’s a mission with diverse initiatives which directly influence the policy level, contribute to the food security and show guidelines towards the ‘to do’s against the severe impacts of climate change and overall promotes the causes of farmers on media so that they can get fair price for their produce, better health, entertainment and a platform to raise their voice. Shykh Seraj is a phenomenal broadcaster who first started agricultural TV programmes in Bangladesh with his Mati O Manush (1982) on Bangladesh Television, the state-run TV of Bangladesh. During that period of time his mission was to sow the seeds of inspiration, hope and courage in the farming community of Bangladesh and awaken the urban people as well towards agriculture. Mr. Seraj worked with the programme until 1996.

After Channel i was established in 1999, Mr. Seraj had the dream to start freshly, a new programme in a different outlook which will focus more and more towards farmers’ rights, a programme which will highlight the needs of farmers on the policy tables.
