Описание: Jonzip of Glasgow punk band, The Zips, highlights the events leading up to, and finally culminating in The Battle of George Square, on 31st January 1919, on this the centenary. 60,000 striking workers met in George Square to hear the Government's response to their demands for a 40 hour week, to allow jobs for WW1 troops, fresh home from the killing fields of France and Belgium. The answer was NO; the Red Flag was raised; The Police baton charged Union officials and protestors, and the battle commenced. King George V, fearful that these so-called Red Clydesiders heralded the beginnings of a Bolshevik uprising, and mindful of what had happened to his cousins, Tsar Nicholas and Kaiser Wilhelm II, welcomed the Government's decision to deploy troops and tanks to patrol the streets of Glasgow, in the following days.
