"Moani Ke`ala" was written by Prince William Pitt Leleiohoku, the younger brother of David Kalākaua and Lili'uokalani. The phrase means "fragrance borne on the wind" and is believed to be a reference to a romantic attachment.
Gabby Pahinui made it one of his signature songs with a sprightly arrangement. While Led Kaapana is visiting us I persuaded him to join me in our little home studio, The Brass Toucan, and this is one of the tracks we recorded.
Led is playing my Martin OM-18GE, I'm picking on my Kathy Wingert Model E. Both guitars are in taropatch open G tuning: D G D G B D from low pitch to high.
We used a pair of Schoeps CMC641 mics to capture the audio, connected to REAPER audio software through an RME UFX interface.
Video was shot on a pair of Lumix GH4 cameras and a Lumix LX100. Video editing was done in Edius.
