Описание: Testimony is underway in the trial of Kouri Richins, the Utah mother of three accused of fatally poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, with fentanyl in March 2022.

On day one, jurors heard starkly different portrayals of the couple’s marriage. Prosecutors allege Richins killed her husband for financial gain while planning a future with another man, Josh Grossmann. Summit County Chief Prosecutor Brad Bloodworth told jurors the evidence will show she wanted her husband’s money to maintain a façade of wealth and start a new life. He said she had planned a trip with her boyfriend weeks after Eric’s death and had texted that she wished her husband “wasn’t in the picture.”

Defense attorney Kathryn Nester countered that Eric struggled with pain and regularly used marijuana gummies and other substances, suggesting he may have overdosed. She told jurors there is “zero evidence” proving how fentanyl entered his system and described the marriage as loving, though imperfect.

Eric’s sister, Katie Richins-Benson, and father, Eugene Richins, delivered emotional testimony about their loss.

Richins, who after her husband’s death self-published a children’s book about grief titled "Are You with Me?", faces nearly three dozen felony charges, including aggravated murder, attempted murder, forgery, mortgage fraud, and insurance fraud.
