The sound of Mehboob Khan's film Mother India was captured live on the sets using sync sound technique. Mother India movie became the last known film to use this sound recording technique and soon voice dubbing became the norm in Bollywood. In this video, we explore the history of sound in Bollywood, compare the silent era films with the talkies and also compare the different sound recording techniques in Bollywood versus Hollywood. Mehboob Khan spared no expense in shooting his film Mother India and employed the more costlier sync sound recording on sets rather than asking his actors to dub their voices later in a studio. In this video we also tell the viewers why it's difficult to make sync sound films in Bollywood. Mother India movie was a watershed moment in Bollywood and in the acting career of actress Nargis. During the shooting of the movie, Nargis and Sunil Dutt fell in love and married soon after the release of the movie Mother India (1957).
