As the country braces itself for the 2017 matric results, the top performing schools are hoping to repeat their success. One such school is St John's College in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. The province has been at the bottom of the matric class for the past six years, but there are some schools that continue to shine.
Last year St John's College produced 287 bachelor passes of the 394 learners that sat for exams. It has also produced leaders of the calibre of the Eastern Cape premier, Phumulo Masualle and the Auditor General, Kimi Makwetu. It achieved a 96 percent pass rate for the year 2016
