Have you ever wondered why we say
“Flag Hoisting” on 15 August
but “Flag Unfurling” on 26 January? 🇮🇳
There is an important difference between these two ceremonies.
🇮🇳 15 August – Independence Day:
The Prime Minister hoists the National Flag at the Red Fort.
The flag is raised from below to the top of the flagpole, symbolising the emergence of an Independent India.
🇮🇳 26 January – Republic Day:
The President unfurls the National Flag at Kartavya Path.
The flag is already positioned at the top of the flagpole and is ceremonially opened/unfurled to celebrate the constitution of India .
Remember it easily:
15 August → Hoisting 🇮🇳
26 January → Unfurling 🇮🇳
These are not just words—they represent two important milestones in the history of our nation:
India's Independence and the establishment of the Republic of India.
Let us celebrate our freedom with pride, patriotism and respect for our National Flag. 🇮🇳❤️
Jai Hind! 🇮🇳
Vande Mataram! 🇮🇳
