The Constitution of India was adopted by the elected Constituent Assembly on 26th Nov. 1949 and came into effect on 26th January 1950. The total members of the constituent assembly was 389. Of which there were only 15 women.

These 15 women, who helped shaping the Constitution, raised several prominent issues in the constituent assembly debates.

They addressed a wide range of issues of social justice such as prevention of bonded labour and human trafficking, minority rights, women's rights etc. Despite large corpus of literature on the Constitution, little is known about the women who played a key role in the making of the Constitution.
