Living with Down’s syndrome has not stood in the way of 15-year-old Li Xiang’s Olympic dreams.
The young gymnast from Shanghai won two gold medals for China at the Abu Dhabi Special Olympics in March 2019.
Li’s mother, Yang Jianying, admits struggling at first when her son was born with the genetic condition in December 2003, and later being worried about his ability to practise gymnastics.
But today those concerns seem a distant memory since Li has taken part in two Special Olympics Summer Games and one Winter Games, and has yet to return empty-handed.
