In Birmingham, Alabama (southern tip of the Appalachians), Sloss Furnaces produced iron for nearly a century. The conditions were hellish, with temperatures reaching 120 degrees. A foreman named "Slag" Wormwood was notorious for pushing his workers to death—literally. He eventually fell into a pool of molten iron.
Legend says the workers pushed him. Today, the site is a museum, but people report being shoved, punched, and told to "get back to work" by a gravelly voice. It is considered one of the most demonic locations in the industrial US.
