Johnston police said Friday that they removed five children from a home because they were living in "deplorable" conditions.
Acting on a report, police said officers did a wellness check at the Harris Avenue home at about noon Wednesday. They determined five children, including a 7-week-old infant, lived at the home.
"Officers observed deplorable living conditions throughout the inside of the home to include trash, feces, and moldy food. Felines were also located in the residence with no visible food or water," a statement from police said.
Police said the state Department of Children, Youth and Families took custody of the children. They were taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for evaluation.
