In this episode of @FARMINGHorizons, we continue the journey of building a new orchard from the ground up. This day is about understanding the land — walking through it, observing its trees, and slowly opening it up for what lies ahead.
We begin in the lower section of the farm, surrounded by sisal plants and scattered acacia trees. Some species are preserved, others identified, and many competing shrubs are carefully cleared to create space. Along the way, we encounter valuable trees like Balanites, reminding us that not everything on the land is meant to be removed — some things are meant to be protected.
With simple tools and steady effort, paths begin to form. Dense areas slowly open up. What was once thick and inaccessible starts to breathe. This is not fast work, but it is intentional — shaping the land step by step in preparation for a productive food forest.
This episode captures the quiet, physical work that comes before planting — the foundation of a well-planned orchard. As we clear, we reflect on the importance of knowing the land, respecting its life, and working with purpose.
