U.S. Eyes Kharg Island and Hormuz Straits But Capturing Them Carries Enormous Risk

Описание: A key U.S. military objective in the Iran conflict is capturing Kharg Island, the crown jewel of Iran's oil and gas industry, through which 90% of Iran's energy exports flow. However, the island sits over 400 kilometres deep inside the Persian Gulf, making a naval assault extremely difficult through Iranian-controlled waters. Alternatively, U.S. Marines could target strategic islands at the mouth of the Strait of Hormuz, including Larak, Hormuz, Qeshm, Hengam, and Abu Musa. While the Marine Corps is specially trained for island capture operations, all these locations fall within striking range of Iranian drones, ballistic missiles, and cruise missiles launched from heavily fortified coastal bases, caves, and bunkers. Experts warn that while the plan looks viable on paper, implementation could result in massive American casualties.
