Speaking to Russian state television reporter Pavel Zarubin, Putin said Russia remains a reliable supplier to partners such as Slovakia and Hungary but questioned whether it makes sense to continue deliveries if Europe is preparing to impose a full ban.

The European Commission is expected to submit a legal proposal to permanently ban Russian oil imports, with additional restrictions on gas, including liquefied natural gas, potentially taking effect in the coming years. Putin described his remarks as “thinking out loud” rather than a formal decision, adding that he would instruct the Russian government and energy companies to examine the issue.

Putin blamed rising oil and gas prices on restrictions targeting Russian supplies and broader instability in the Middle East. He also called a recent attack on a Russian LNG tanker a “terrorist attack,” arguing it would further destabilize global energy markets, particularly in Europe.

While no immediate decision has been made, Moscow’s comments signal growing energy tensions between Russia and the European Union as both sides reassess long-term supply strategies.
