This was my first 50-mile ultra… and it humbled me.

I trained through a Maine fall and winter, traveled to Texas, and lined up for Rocky 50 believing I was ready. The first loop went well, lock-step with my goal. Then the heat and humidity exposed a problem I underestimated—sodium and hydration. My right calf started cramping hard, my legs were shot, and less than 30 miles in I was ready to quit.

At the last aid station before loop 3, I wasn’t injured. I wasn’t broken. I was empty. It felt like I had nothing left.

Then the switch flipped. I thought about Jesus—tested in the wilderness for 40 days, and what He endured beyond it… the cross. On the last leg of my second loop, crushed and by that reality all at the same time, all I could say was:

“One more.”

Finish time: 11 hours, 2 minutes (and some change)
Biggest lesson: Fitness wasn’t the limiter. Fueling and electrolytes were. But most of all- We can do SO MUCH more than what we think if we have faith.
And I’m grateful for the people who carried me when my plan fell apart. I couldn't have done it alone.
