Sitting over 2,000 meters above sea level, it offers a striking contrast to Chongqing’s dense urban landscape, with cool temperatures, wide skies, and rolling green meadows. The scenery feels unexpectedly pastoral, earning it nicknames like “Southern China’s Alpine Meadow” or an “oriental Switzerland.”

The heart of Fairy Mountain is its vast pastureland, where horses, sheep, and cattle graze freely across open fields bordered by forests of pine and fir. Visitors often explore the area using small sightseeing road trains that loop through the grasslands, making it easy to take in the views without long walks. Horseback riding, photography, picnicking, and simply watching the animals roam are some of the most popular activities, especially during the lush summer months when the grass is at its greenest.

Seasonal changes give Fairy Mountain very different personalities throughout the year.
