Edward Snowden: Russia better than prison

Описание: Former US National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, who is currently living under temporary asylum in Russia, has told Brazilian journalists that he would like to be granted asylum in Brazil, but that he would not trade information in exchange for his application being accepted.
The NSA whistleblower, who leaked documents revealing a massive surveillance programme, was charged last year in the United States with theft of government property, unauthorized communication of national defense information and willful communication of classified intelligence to an unauthorized person.
Snowden, who fled to Hong Kong and then Moscow last year, is believed to have accessed about 1.5 million secret documents, US officials have said, although how many he actually took is unclear.
Snowden has stated that he is not under the control of Russia's government and had given Moscow no intelligence documents after nearly a year of asylum there.

During the interview, which was aired on Sunday during a popular news programme on Brazil's TV Globo, he reflected that living in Russia is better than prison.
"It's really not as bad as they say. You know, no country is perfect and Russia has some political policies that I disagree very strongly with, they monitor the internet in a ways I consider inappropriate but my day- to-day life, it's much better then prison," Snowden said.
Snowden's temporary asylum in Russia is due to expire in August.
