Sun Pharma’s US Deal: Why India’s Pharma Industry May Need to Change

Описание: Sun Pharma has agreed to extend Most Favoured Nation pricing to U.S. state Medicaid programmes and apply MFN pricing to future innovative medicine launches. In return, the U.S. will delay Section 232 tariffs on its innovative pharmaceutical products for more than two years. The exact commercial terms have not been disclosed. The agreement comes as Washington seeks cheaper medicines while also pushing pharmaceutical companies towards greater domestic manufacturing.

The deal is significant for India because Sun Pharma's U.S. business contributes about 27% of its global revenue. Its recent Organon acquisition, valued at $11.75 billion, has also expanded its exposure to branded medicines and biosimilars. While MFN pricing could pressure margins, analysts see potential benefits through market access, tariff relief and greater policy certainty.
