Описание:
A lyrical retelling of Book 9 of The Odyssey, where Odysseus confronts the danger of forgetting home.
Not every danger draws blood.
Some offer peace.
Fruit of Forgetfulness explores the Lotus-Eaters not as monsters, but as mercy — a sweetness that erases grief, duty, and return. Here, forgetting is not violence, but relief. And Odysseus’ cruelty becomes care as he drags his men, weeping, back toward memory and pain.

The Lotus-Eaters
“Next we came to the land of the Lotus-Eaters.
They bore us no harm, but gave my men the lotus fruit.
Whoever ate of it longed no more for home,
but wished only to stay, feeding on the sweet plant, forgetful of return.
I dragged them weeping back to the ships,
bound them beneath the benches,
and we set sail once more.”
FULL LYRICS
Eat.
Stay.
The tide forgets.
The sun delays.
Your name is distant.
Your wounds are gone.
You were never anyone.
They walked on sand that held no weight,
Where time had learned to hesitate.
The fruit was gold, the air was sweet—
It bloomed where memory went to sleep.
And those who ate forgot the sea,
Forgot the war, forgot me.
The fruit sang: Stay. The waves said: Go.
But roots grew deep beneath their soul.
They smiled slow with haunted grace—
Already ghosts without a place.
Eat, and forget.
The ship, the shore—
The blood you spilled,
The gods you swore.
No home, no war, no breath, no name—
Just honeyed sleep without the shame.
Eat, and forget the man you were.
Forget the cost. Forget her.
They knelt like saints at altar vine,
Drunk on sugar, deaf to time.
The herald dropped his voice and laughed—
I knew I'd lose them to the grass.
But I am captain. I remember.
I am the flame. I am the ember.
Bite once… you belong.
Stay here… where there is no wrong.
Drink deep… the salt is gone.
Forget the road. Forget the dawn.
I dragged them back with salted hands,
Their mouths still sweet, their legs like sand.
They wept as if I'd torn them raw,
As if the fruit was all they saw.
I bound them fast beneath the boards—
And prayed they'd find their names once more.
Not every loss is blood and bone—
Some drown soft and die alone.
Not every curse is god or sea—
Sometimes it's joy without the grief.
And that… I could not let them keep.
Eat, and forget—but I refused.
The fruit was peace. The price was truth.
No pain, no love, no home to lose—
But also no path back to you.
I chose the storm. I chose the name.
I chose the road back through the flame.
Come back…
Come back…
Come back…
Come back…
They never did.
