Nils Olof Gustafsson Lindberg, born June 11, 1933 in Uppsala, Sweden, is a Swedish composer, pianist and arranger.
Nils Lindberg belongs to a family of musicians Gagnefs parish in Dalarna, where he resides. He is the nephew of Oscar Lindberg and father Olle Lindberg. He is trained in classical composition at the current Royal College of Music for, among others, Lars-Erik Larsson and Karl-Birger Blomdahl. Very significant for Lindberg's style is the impression he had of Dalarna folk.
Lindberg is known as a composer of jazz music and music for classical ensembles. In jazz, he seems also as arranger and pianist. In a number of his works together jazz, folk and classical forms, such as the album 7 Dalarna paintings (1973) and in his Requiem (1993) for soloists, mixed choir and expanded big band. He has set to music poems by the likes of Harry Martinson for driving.
His best-known compositions are probably melodies As you are, the text set by Red Mitchell, and Shall I compare thee, to the text of Shakespeare. The latter part of the suite O Mistress mine (1988), where Lindberg several English poems set to music from the same era.
As a pianist and arranger, Nils Lindberg collaborated extensively with Alice Babs, including on her album Do not Be Blue (2001).
Lindberg was awarded Jussi Björling Scholarship 1990, Lars Gullin Prize in 2003 and the medal Litteris et Artibus 2006th
