Hi everyone! In this video I will talk about my favorite method of cutting foam (EVA to be specific) when you need to be precise.
I think the hot knife is better than regular blades in the following cases:
When you don't have a lot of room to work with. For example, when you're trimming a piece that has less than 1/2" to be removed.
When you need your cut to be as straight as possible to prevent the corners from curving (see in the video)
When you want a very clean edge (but you must keep your x-acto blade clean!)
When you have a lot of cutting to do!
One time that I don't think the hot knife is the best is when you have to cut a long distance (12"-18" +) depending on how much space you have to work with.
