Описание: Even a hundred years after they sank, many WW1 German u-boats remain unidentified and the cause of their loss remains unclear. This ongoing mystery continues to captivate historians and divers alike. Often, the only way to solve the mystery of these submerged vessels is to dive them, acquire as much information as possible, and then combine this new data with what is known from various historical archives. I was fortunate enough to be part of the #gasperados team of technical divers who completed a series of exciting dives on a large World War One German submarine lying off the beautiful Lizard Peninsula in the English Channel, an area famous for its rich maritime history. We scrubbed the prop and acquired large amounts of video footage, which was then used to build a detailed 3D photogrammetry model. This advanced modeling process allowed us to confirm the identity of the submarine as the SM U-95, which was tragically lost on 7 Jan 1918 during the tumultuous times of World War One. In addition to confirming its identity, we were also able to validate SS Braenil's claim to have sunk SM U-95 by ramming, making it noteworthy as only the second merchant ship in WW1 to have achieved this remarkable feat.
