The Varley Commander is a type of fire truck used by Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) as part of their Class 3 urban pumper fleet — vehicles that deliver water, foam and firefighting crews to structural and urban fires.
These appliances were built by Varley Specialised Vehicles Ltd. on a VSV Commander chassis and commissioned into FRNSW service mainly in the early 2000s.
While many Varley Commanders have been gradually replaced or supplemented by newer Scania- and Iveco-based appliances in FRNSW’s evolving fleet, they remain a recognizable and historically important part of NSW’s fire response history
