Adding a servo controller module with position sensing to a common NEMA17 stepper motor.

Once fitted, the built-in display and calibration / menu system work with just a pair of power wires connected.
I'm using an "MKS" Servo42D, in the RS485 version for this project (part of a much larger one, in progress).
These modules allow full control and position feedback from the motor, using a two-wire serial data link and a pair of power wires. The data link can be daisy chained through several motors so even fairly complex robotic project can have vary simple wiring.
Even the "home" position switch and possibly travel limit switches can connect directly to these modules, rather than having to be wired back to the controlling MCU or computer.
The add-on module kits or motors with these already installed are available from aliexpress, amazon, ebay, and many other suppliers. The latest revision as of now is the "D" suffix version; eg, a Servo42C is an earlier version.
The screws in the kits are for the commonest motor body length. They can be used with longer body motors, you just need to get some suitable length (or oversize, fully threaded) screws and cut them to suit, so they reach half way through the end plate at the shaft end of the motor.
