Since the 1920s, Harlem has been known as a major African-American residential, cultural and business center. For years, Harlem residents had to tolerate the stink of the trash heaps and rubble-strewn abandoned parcels of lands. But now, people have successfully transformed these vacant lots into lush gardens and oases of positive energy.
