As part of criminal law training at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law, students enrolled in the Robson Crim Externship: Digital Knowledge Mobilization are required to create a podcast exploring different aspects of criminal law.
This externship allows students to work in a digital legal context, developing professional skills in legal knowledge dissemination and project management. Students produce public-facing legal content in areas related to criminal law, working within the Faculty's Rights Clinic under the supervision of faculty members. This externship emphasizes legal ethics, professionalism, and access to justice.
Episode Two is from law student Tesia who has interviewed Winnipeg-based criminal defence lawyer Wendy Martin White, KC, who practices at Phillips Aiello.
Their conversation focuses on bail, how recent proposed legislative amendments will affect our bail laws and also how it may impact marginalized individuals, specifically those individuals who struggle with their mental health or with addictions or with housing insecurity.
