In the Everglades, the team works hands-on to capture, tag, and release Osceola turkeys, a species found only in Florida and celebrated as one of conservation’s greatest comeback stories. With new GPS tracking technology, scientists and the Miccosukee community are safeguarding the future of these incredible birds.

At Lake Okeechobee, we follow researchers as they track the endangered snail kite—a bird of prey that depends almost entirely on apple snails for survival. Surprisingly, invasive South American snails may be helping this raptor rebound, even as they threaten the broader wetland ecosystem.

Finally, we join Miccosukee elder Betty Osceola on a powerful release of rescued wildlife back into the Everglades, including an eastern screech owl, a red-shouldered hawk, and young raccoons and opossums. It’s an emotional reminder of the deep cultural and ecological connection between people, land, and wildlife.
