In a major welfare initiative, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jammu and Kashmir Bank to extend banking, credit and insurance benefits to daily-rated workers, contractual employees and other casual workers. Under the agreement, thousands of workers engaged across various government departments will be brought under a structured financial framework, including zero-balance savings accounts, free debit cards, digital banking services and concessional credit facilities.
A key highlight of the initiative is the provision of a group personal accident insurance cover of ₹5 lakh, along with additional disability-related insurance benefits. Senior officials stated that the move aims to strengthen financial security, promote inclusion and provide social protection to workers who have long remained outside formal financial systems. The government said the initiative will enhance workers’ confidence, sense of security and overall well-being across Jammu and Kashmir.
