Finish Position: P13
Executive Summary
A challenging round defined by technical transition and the unforgiving nature of the "Green Hell." Competing with a brand-new Fanatec ClubSport DD+ and V3 Pedals (freshly modified with the BPK), the primary objective was adaptation. While the raw result (P13) was below expectations, the race served as a vital high-pressure "shakedown" for the new hardware configuration.
Qualifying: The Learning Curve
Qualifying was a struggle as muscle memory for the new 15Nm base and stiffened brake pedal had not yet solidified. Several minor errors and "over-corrections" on the Nordschleife sector led to a disjointed lap, resulting in a P15 start. The increased fidelity of the DD+ initially proved overwhelming, making it difficult to find the RSR’s limit under the pressure of the clock.
Race Analysis: The Survival Grind
• Stint 1 (Soft Tyres): Starting from the back, the focus was on tyre management and navigating the chaos of the mid-pack. The Soft tyres provided good grip, but the RSR’s mid-engine snap was exaggerated by the light F1 rim and high torque settings. The goal was simply to survive the first three laps while hunting for a consistent braking rhythm.
• The Pit Stop: Swapped to Mediums to close out the race. The transition to the harder compound required immediate recalibration of the brake pressure (BRF) to avoid ABS lock-up.
• Stint 2 (Medium Tyres): As the race progressed, the physical fatigue of the 15Nm torque became a factor. However, while others succumbed to the track's brutality, the RSR remained on the tarmac.
Final Results & Reflection:
The race saw a high attrition rate, with three drivers ahead failing to finish (DNF). By maintaining a "survival first" mindset, I was able to capitalize on their errors to secure P13.
The Verdict:
A "terrible" performance on paper, but a tactical success in terms of hardware data. The Nürburgring remains a weak point, but the foundation is now laid for the new gear. The focus now shifts to de-tuning the FFB strength and fine-tuning the BRF for the next round to ensure consistency over raw power.
Lessons Learned for Round 5:
• FFB Management: 15Nm is too much for a 24h layout; need to drop in-game torque to reduce fatigue.
• Brake Calibration: The Red/Green inserts require a higher BRF to prevent the "ABS flickers" seen today.
• Consistency - Speed: On long tracks, hardware comfort beats a "fast" setup that is hard to drive.
