Credit Card Skimmer Found at Local Gas Station

Описание: VANDALIA -- A warning concerning your credit cards. Yesterday, November 5, 2015 a skimmer was found at a local gas station. The device can steal your personal information causing a personal nightmare. County officials are looking to see if any more gas pumps have been tampered with. Do you fill up on gas a lot here? Richar Staup was asked. "About once a week," he said. Imagine Staup's surprise when he found out someone put a skimmer in one of the pumps at the BP Gas Station on National Road. "That's not good, I mean everyone's credit gets messed up and I've had that done to me before," said Staup. The small electronic device is attached to the credit card reader inside the pump. Yesterday, auditors inspected pumps at a dozen stations. "So far that's the only one but were going to continue to test and check. Again we were out today and we'll be out next week," said Montgomery County Auditor Karl Keith. "We do over 200 stations in Montgomery County and we do over, around 7,000 gas pump inspections a year," said Keith. They check to make sure credit card readers aren't tampered with. The auditors found the skimmer on pump 4 at the Vandalia station. They do routine inspections and the last one was done two months ago. That means there's a two month window for when the skimmer could have been in use. "Well that's the pump I mainly use and hopefully that's, ha ha, not going to be a problem, said customer Randy Morgan. He is a little worried "Well I've got my wife on it right now, checking everything out, making sure theres no, you know, bad withdrawals on there," said Morgan. Keith recommends checking your bank statements or use cash. Check to see if the seal is broken on the pump, And if something looks suspicious, notify the attendant. Staup and Morgan have advice for the thief. "I think they need to go get a job," said Morgan "Go get a job, everybody else works for their money," said Staup Keith said two years ago four skimmers were found. Three in Moraine and one in Englewood.
