Court Denies Relief to Doctor Accused of Running Illegal Gender Determination Racket

Calling 'female infanticide' a deeply disturbing issue, the Punjab and Haryana High Court recently rejected an anticipatory bail plea by a Hisar doctor accused under the PCPNDT Act and IPC. According to The Tribune, Justice Kaul stated that the petitioner faced serious allegations of running a large illegal sex determination racket across Punjab and Haryana, using a portable ultrasound machine at secret locations. To avoid detection, customers were allegedly blindfolded before being taken to these sites. The petitioner was also implicated in seven other criminal cases, five of which involved similar offences under the PCPNDT Act
