Описание: In 1893, over 200 Australians left their homeland to establish a utopian socialist colony called "New Australia" in Paraguay. Led by journalist and socialist William Lane, the group aimed to create a classless, alcohol-free, racially pure, and cooperative society, driven by dissatisfaction with capitalism and social conditions in Australia. Paraguay welcomed the settlers and offered them land, and the group sailed from Sydney in July 1893. However, the colony soon faced internal conflicts over leadership, racial policies, and alcohol use, leading to divisions and the eventual breakdown of the original vision. While many settlers returned or moved on, some remained, and their descendants still live in Paraguay today, maintaining a unique blend of Australian and Paraguayan heritage.
