Email address to get on the interest list for the blower housing and dynamic brake hatch kit: [email protected]. As of August 6 at 2130 CDT, the angled filter box assemblies are all spoken for but I still have some with the square filter box available.
This past weekend, I converted my Rapido high nose Norfolk Southern GP38 to one of the ex-Southern GP38ACs. Primarily, this involved swapping the blower housing and the extended range dynamic brake hatch for the versions seen on the GP38AC. To do this, I 3D printed a new blower housing, air filter box, and extended range dynamic brake hatch.
In this video, I walk through the process of how I did the conversion, and also discuss my weathering process, covering the fading, dirt wash, and how I use powders on the grilles. This weathering method allows me to achieve realistic results in a simple manner and a short time.
One question I get a lot is if I'd sell any of my 3D printed parts - for the first time, that answer is a (limited) yes! I am doing a limited print run of the blower housing and extended range dynamic brake hatches. If you're interested in getting one of these GP38AC conversion sets, send me an email at [email protected] and I'll add you to the list. These are very limited (only printing six sets at this time). I'll contact the interested parties once the parts are ready (hopefully within the next week).
