Master Carver Ian Agrell takes a closer look at a selection of hand-carved Neoclassical mouldings, the type of woodcarving detail traditionally found on cornices, classical interiors, and historic architecture.
These designs are rooted in the French Empire style—also known as Federal style in the United States and Regency style in the UK—dating back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Typical features include cavetto profiles, acanthus leaves, and the distinctive sausage and reel motif, along with carefully worked corner treatments that ensure smooth transitions and returns.
At Agrell Architectural Carving, our large team of classically trained carvers specialise in bespoke, high-end architectural woodcarving. We work internationally with architects, designers, and contractors to deliver timeless, handcrafted details for interiors and historic buildings.
