STORYLINE:
Thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are struggling to keep themselves warm through harsh winter conditions as uncertainty rises around the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire deal.

AP footage filmed last Wednesday showed a newly established deserted displacement camp in the Netzarim area of central Gaza, being built by the Egyptian Relief Committee to temporarily house thousands displaced by the war.

But in the past few days heavy rain and winds have hit the area, flattening dozens of tents and flooding camps with ankle-deep puddles, as displaced people tried to stay dry in tents frayed by months of use.

The first phase of the ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10 was meant to bring a surge in humanitarian aid for Gaza, including shelter.

However, many families lack proper blankets, clothing, and safe shelter to stay warm.

At least 12 people, including 3 children, have died since December 3 from hypothermia or weather-related collapses of war-damaged homes, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
