“As My Body Breaks” is another release from the 13-song album project by Iossa & Dean Mark Hilario Enoza, titled Jesus the Great I AM. The heart behind this project is simple: every song invites you to slow down and meditate on a different aspect of who Jesus is. For this track, we’re beholding Jesus as the Resurrection and the Life, while you take in Dean’s artwork and listen to Iossa’s delivery.
This song is a raw, hope-filled worship ballad born from real suffering. Co-written with Filipino singer Jyel Tagbo during his battle with Stage 5 Chronic Kidney Disease, "As My Body Breaks" is deeply inspired by Jyel’s journey and is dedicated to him. Dean has witnessed how Jyel continues to worship with unwavering faith in the midst of extreme pain and suffering, and this song carries that testimony at its core.
Sung by Angelo Iossa, the song gives voice to quiet prayers whispered in pain, and to the unshakable faith that remains when the body begins to fail. As the verses sit in vulnerability and honest lament, the chorus rises with defiant hope, declaring that even as our bodies break, the life of Christ within us burns brighter. This song reminds us that Jesus is not only present in our suffering—He is victorious over it.
The song and artwork are both anchored in John 11, where Jesus stands before the tomb of Lazarus and declares, “I Am the resurrection and the life.” Dean’s painting, Jesus the Resurrection and the Life, depicts this moment of divine authority and compassion—where death is confronted, the stone is rolled away, and life is called forth. In the same way, this song proclaims that no sickness, suffering, or grave has the final word.
Ultimately, all honor and glory belong to Jesus Christ—the One who broke His own body in love, to save, redeem, and give us life. He is the Resurrection and the Life, the One who turns breaking into renewal, weakness into worship, and even death into victory.
If you are walking through illness, exhaustion, grief, or a season where your strength feels gone, may this song remind you: you are not alone, your pain is not wasted, and resurrection life is already at work within you.
“I Am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in Me, even though they die, will live.”

Lyrics
In a quiet room with empty chairs
No one but You can hear my prayers
This song I lift to You, my Lord
My fading breath, the final chord
The poison creeps, the pain runs deep
The clock still ticks, I fight for sleep
Is this the end, the last refrain?
But I believe, I’ll sing again
Oh, nobody ever really knows
My hopeful soul beneath the sorrows
As my body breaks, my spirit grows stronger…
burns brighter, worships even louder
As my body breaks, My faith grows deeper…
anchored in forever, though my flesh may fail,
Your Word will never, Your promise won’t waver
You raise me up in love that holds me together
As my body breaks,
I’m more alive than ever
Beyond these walls, life carries on
I see the dawn break through the stone
The curtain closed my final show
Your peace surrounds what I let go
No grave can steal the life You give
Your strength sustains my heart to live
When I am weak, then You are strong
I know I’ll never walk alone
Oh, this hopeful soul knows where to go
Into the dawn beyond the shadow
As my body breaks,
My spirit grows stronger… burns brighter,
worships even louder, as my body breaks,
My faith grows deeper… anchored in forever
Though my flesh may fail,
Your Word will never, Your promise won’t waver
You raise me up in love that holds me together
As my body breaks, I’m more alive than ever
The grave lost its hold, the stone has been rolled
You turned my sickness into a song
Through trial by flame, my heart was changed
And all my pain was not in vain
What death destroyed, You will rebuild
The end turns to eternity
You call my name, and I arise
You’re The Resurrection and The Life!
As my body breaks, my spirit grows stronger…
burns brighter, worships even louder
As my body breaks,
My faith grows deeper… anchored in forever
Though my flesh may fail,
Your Word will never, Your promise won’t waver
You raise me up in love that holds me together
As my body breaks… I’m more alive than ever.
