The party's protest came just as the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly's monsoon session began on Monday. On Sunday, one day before the monsoon session, the Samajwadi Party convened a meeting. It was decided there that the party will march to the state assembly, led by party chief Akhilesh Yadav. The party is demonstrating against unemployment, inflation, a lack of energy, and incidences of violence against women in the state. During the protest, Akhilesh Yadav declared that the party's assembly would be held on the streets. He sat down on the streets with party MLAs and declared that the monsoon session will begin on the streets. Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, commented on the protest, saying the Samajwadi Party should have obtained permission to hold the march.
