Real Guyana - Paradise Lost

Описание: I once flew my drone over a billion dollar Guyanese luxury resort owned by arguably the biggest gold miner in Guyana. On the way home I could only wonder at how one man could amass that sum of money, I could only think about all the people in pursuit of it and ultimately I found myself wondering about the true cost of this gold. I got a chance to find out. What price was paid by the land for all this gold and what have we left it in exchange for the hummers, bling and fancy houses we wrestled from its crust. There is one person I must ask forgiveness for going ahead and publishing some of this footage but the truth is bigger than both of us my friend. If mining cannot be stopped entirely then it is surely time we stop paying lip service to the idea of doing it responsibly and start taking action. On paper 80% of Guyana's rainforest is supposedly still virgin but I cannot see how this could be so. How can we ignore the interconnectedness of the rivers and the porosity of the earth, the long term impact of this toxic load of mercury dumped into rivers and streams diverted from their true course. It would do us good to pay attention to this issue. If sea levels rise as predicted, this is the very land we will need to sustain us in the future.
