This is a tour of the Cades Cove community in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located in Townsend, Tennessee - just miles from Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Knoxville. Like many in the National Parks, the residents of the cove were forced to abandon their homes when the Park was created.
The Cades Cove community is hundreds of years old and is maintained today by the Parks Commission. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park remains one of Americas last free/no admission parks, as millions of tourist now visit Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Townsend and the surrounding area every year. Cades Cove is a tourist favorite and many vacationers make seeing the community a top priority on their list.
On a visit to Cades Cove you will almost certainly see black bears, deer - including massive bucks, elk, wild horses, turkey, and other assorted wildlife.
If you're headed to the Smokies, be sure add the 11-mile Cades Cove loop to the must-see sights on your list.
