HMHS Britannic was the third and largest ship of the legendary White Star Line Olympic-class trio: Olympic, Titanic, and Britannic. Built after the tragic sinking of the Titanic in 1912, Britannic incorporated major safety improvements and was intended to become one of the safest passenger liners ever constructed.
However, before entering commercial passenger service, the ship was requisitioned during World War I and converted into a hospital ship for the British Royal Navy.
On November 21, 1916, while sailing in the Aegean Sea near Greece, Britannic struck a naval mine and sank in just 55 minutes. Today, the wreck lies at a depth of approximately 120 meters (394 feet) and remains the largest passenger shipwreck in the world.
In this video, we explore:
The fascinating history of HMHS Britannic
Why the ship sank so quickly
The current condition of the wreck
Whether modern engineering could salvage or restore Britannic
What it would mean if the ship were ever recovered and turned into a museum
Join us as we dive into one of the most fascinating maritime mysteries in history.
